Róbert, or Robi as everyone calls him, totally knocked out a London audience (including ex-Genesis rock-guitar ace, Steve Hackett and TV personality, Anna Ford) in 2004. Robi comes from a long line of dazzling Romany Gypsy musicians, but is too talented to live in their shadow. Equally at home as a classical or a jazz pianist, he won both the Best Soloist and Best Pianist prizes at the 1995 Krakow International Jazz Festival and then a year later walked away with the first prize at the Bach piano competition organized by Radio Basle in Switzerland. The jury of the 2001 Montreux Jazz Festival recognised him as the Best Soloist. He joined the Bolla Quartet in January 2005 and the co-operation already delivered him a new prize: he won the best instrumentalist title at the 2005 Avignon Jazz Festival. |
